FAQs

No referral is necessary if you are claiming via your private health fund or do not wish to receive rebates at all. However, in order to receive a rebate from Medicare, you will need a Care Plan from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. If you do not have a regular GP, we can refer you to one within our network.

It is common to feel hesitant or anxious before beginning therapy, particularly as it is not easy to speak to someone about deeply personal and sensitive information. However, the health Professionals at Mindwise will make this experience a relaxed and easy one with their warm and supportive approach.  The first session will usually be an “information-gathering” session to help build a clear picture about you and your goals. All that is required of you is that you be willing to give therapy a try.

Generally, sessions for individual clients are approximately 50 minutes long. However, this varies depending on the service being provided and the severity of the symptoms being experienced.

This depends on which health professional you are seeing. For Psychology, Medicare cardholders are entitled to a rebate for 10 – 20 individual sessions per calendar year. Clients with other medical conditions may be eligible for 5 sessions under the Chronic Disease Management Scheme with Medicare. Please contact us to find out how this can be arranged.

Psychiatrists are medically trained doctors who specialise in the field of psychiatry. They usually prescribe medications to treat mental illness. Psychologists generally have a minimum of six years of training in the field of psychological treatments for mental  issues. Psychologists use treatments that are focused on improving an individual’s mental health without medication. There is considerable evidence indicating that psychological treatments are effective in assisting individuals with mental health issues (such as anxiety and depression). It is recommended to try psychological approaches to address a problem before considering medication. When needed, psychologists can recommend being seen by a GP or psychiatrist to assess the need for medication. They can then work in collaboration to provide the best possible care for their clients.

If you are looking for therapy in Sydney NSW, but are in a remote area or have restricted access to mental health professionals, we can offer therapy to you through telephone consultations or video conference using Skype. Online therapy is also available.
