Gemma Stephens is a Psychologist and Behavioural Clinician counsellor who has experience providing counselling and psychotherapy treatment for psychological issues and mental illness faced by young children, adolescents and adults.
Gemma has a background in behaviour intervention, and through her years of work at Disability Services Australia (DSA), she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in working with developmental and congenital disabilities. During her time at the DSA, Gemma worked predominantly with individuals with a Dual Diagnosis and complex mental health needs. She provides management and treatment to clients with severe Intellectual Disability who also suffer from a mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, Complex-trauma, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Personality Disorders. Gemma has extensive experience and knowledge of the Disability sector and offers consultancy services to families and organisations who are facing challenges in this area.
As a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Gemma is skilled in providing Hypnosis for a wide range of behavioural and medical issues. Gemma believes in providing a ‘whole-person’ treatment approach on a variety of issues including: depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, grief and loss, childhood and adult-onset trauma, self-esteem and body image issues, and relationship counselling / marriage counselling.
Gemma is also a qualified trainer and group facilitator. Gemma runs training and group therapy sessions for individuals and families looking for positive strategies and lifestyle solutions to their mental health problems.
Gemma works from a holistic framework and integrates a range of therapeutic approaches to provide short-term solution-focused counselling as well as long-term insight-oriented psychotherapy. She values diversity and individual expression, and seeks to empower individuals in line with their valued life direction.
